This career-focused program prepare students for entry-level positions in the accounting field. Students take concentration classes in accounting concepts and principles and accounting cycle and close; fundamentals of business, finance, and economics; and accounting information systems and professional practices.

Core Online Accounting Degree Courses

Core classes address issues such as speech communication, composition, and introductory psychology. A computer application course teaches them basic word processing and spreadsheet packages.

Finally, a career success course helps students succeed in school and in their fields. They learn to identify career opportunities in their fields, financial responsibility, and time management.

Program graduates can compete for entry-level accounting positions in virtually any industry. Typical entry-level duties can include analyzing financial data, conducting research, and preparing financial documents. Examples of potential jobs include:

• Bookkeeping, accounting, or payroll clerks

• Tax preparers

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the industries that have the highest employment for accounting clerks and bookkeepers include businesses that provide accounting, tax preparation, bookkeeping, and payroll services; and local governments. The states with the highest employment level for this career are California, Texas, New York, Florida, and Pennsylvania.

BLS says that demand for full-charge bookkeepers who can do much of the same work as accountants is expected to increase.
